Wonderful Concert

Congratulations to all the band students for a wonderful concert last night. You played beautifully and conducted yourselves in a professional manner. You should be proud of your accomplishments. Congrats!

Thanks to all the parents, friends and staff who attended the concert last night. Your support of our band program is appreciated. It was amazing to see so many people in attendance. I hope we helped get you in the Christmas spirit by playing our holiday music. Thanks again for coming and have a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

Wind Ensemble Winter Concert Tour

The Wind Ensemble will be performing at all the Lowell District elementary schools this week. Below is the performance schedule. Please contact Mrs. Carruth if you have any questions.

Thursday, December 20th
8:30 AM, Load Equipment/Depart Rancho
9:30 AM, Perform at Macy
10:15 AM, Travel to Olita
11:00 AM, Perform at Olita
11:45 AM, Travel to Meadow Green
12 Noon, Perform at Meadow Green
1:00 PM, Return to Rancho
Students will eat Lunch when we return. Bring Lunch. Students are to wear Wind Ensemble shirts.

Friday, December 21st
10:30 AM, Load Equipment/Depart Rancho
11:30 AM, Perform at Jordan
12:15 PM, Travel to El Portal
12:30, Eat "Subway" lunch at El Portal
1:30 PM, Perform at El Portal

Band Concert Tonight

The band concert begins tonight at 6:00 PM. Students should be here at 5:30 PM in order to warm-up. Students should wear "concert attire." Students not wearing the appropriate attire will not perform. Parents and friends are welcome to attend.

Band Concert Next Week

The band concert is Tuesday, December 18 at 6:00 PM in the Rancho Starbuck Multi-Use Room. All students are expected to attend the concert and stay for the duration of the concert. This performance will be worth 150 points. Please do not miss the concert.

Other Information:
  • Parents-Show support for your child by attending the concert.
  • Family members and friends are invited to enjoy the concert.
  • Students are to wear the appropriate "concert attire." If there are any questions about what students should wear, please contact Mrs. Carruth. Students who do not wear the appropriate attire will not perform.
  • Students should arrive by 5:30 PM in order to warm-up.

No Tests This Week

There will be no music tests for band classes this week.

Quarter 2 Begins Today

Today we begin the second quarter. Students have a fresh and new start for each class. I would like to take this opportunity to remind students and parents how to be a successful band student.

  • Students earn 10 participation points each day. Students should have their instrument, music, pencil and any other necessary supplies, in class each day.
  • Students should be on-time to class. Students sitting in their seat with all necessary supplies when the bell rings are considered to be on-time.
  • Students should practice at least 15 minutes each day at home. They should prepare their individual band part.
  • Students should have their instrument in good working condition.
  • Students should come to class daily with a positive attitude and be ready and willing to contribute to the overall good of the ensemble.

Reminder-Band Pictures

All band classes will be taking pictures this Thursday during class. Only students wearing the appropriate attire will be in the picture. Picture packages are available for purchase. Cash or check will be accepted. Students should include the payment in the order envelope and bring to school Thursday. Please contact Mrs. Carruth with any questions.

Band Pictures

Students were given band picture information to take home Friday, October 19th. Please ask your student for the hand-out regarding picture packages available for purchase.

By popular demand, each band class will be taking a professional group photo. Parents will be given the opportunity to purchase photo packages of both the group and/or individuals. All students are required to be in the group photo. Only those students purchasing individual photos need to take an individual photo. Photos will be taken with instruments.

Date: Thursday, November 8, 2007

Time: During the Regular Band Class

Who: All students are required to be in the group photo

Attire: Students will wear “concert attire” for the group photo and the individual photo. Only those students wearing the appropriate attire will be in the photo.

Packages: Photo packages are available to purchase. Students should bring the payment enclosed in the attached envelope to school on November 8th.

Payment: Parents may pay by cash (exact amount only) or by check (payable to Rick Roden Photography). Payment will only be accepted during the time of the photo.

Please Note: No late payments will be accepted. No make-up photos will be taken. Only those students wearing the appropriate attire will be in the photo.

Performance Opportunity

All band students are invited to perform at the La Habra High School football game Friday, October 5, 2007. Students should meet at the band room at 5 PM for rehearsal. Students may be picked up after the game between 9 and 9:30 PM.

Students were given a hand-out today in class with all the detailed information. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Carruth.

Back to School Night

Any band student who has a parent attend Back to School Night will receive 10 points extra credit.

Beginning Band
By the end of this week, beginning band students should be proficient in playing all of the exercises on pages 4 and 5. The first test will be sometime next week. Each student should be prepared to play exercises 1-13.

Intermediate Band
By the end of this week, intermediate band students should be proficient in playing the Bb Scale. Students will be tested Friday.


Wind Ensemble
By the end of this week, wind ensemble students should be proficient in playing the Bb velocity exercise. Students will be tested Friday.

Leadership
Leadership Logs are due every Monday. Students who are unprepared for this assignment will not receive points. Leadership students will be assisting with Back to School Night this Thursday evening at 5:30 PM.

Reminders

I would just like to remind students and parents that instruments should be picked up each day after school and taken home. It is highly recommended students do not leave instruments at school over night.

Students will be receiving more music next week. However, this weekend students should review what was learned in class this week.

Please save the date. The band holiday concert will take place December 18. Each band class will be performing. It is required that each student attend the concert. Please contact Mrs. Carruth if you have any questions.

WELCOME BACK!

Welcome back to the 2007-2008 school year. I hope each student is having a wonderful first week of school. By now, each class has received the syllabus. This should be signed, dated and returned to me by this Friday, September 7th. Students who do this will receive 10 points. Students who are late with this assignment will earn fewer than 10 points.

Leadership Class
Homework: Introduce yourself to two people at Rancho using the methods discussed in class today. Be prepared to verbally share with the class the information learned about the two individuals you met. Have Fun!
